Hello,
a couple of month ago Oracle published the new support model which applies starting from JDK 11: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/eol-135779.html
In short, in the future Oracle provides new JDK releases 2 x year, but these releases will not get any security updates once a next relase is available. Every 3-4 years Oracle will create a Long-Term-Support release (LTS), the first LTS release will be JDK 11. Oracle will provide security patches for LTS releases for many years, but not for free. To stay on the most recent level of security patches, Oracle JDK users have a choice: either upgrade to a new version of Oracle JDK every 6 months, or pay for a LTS release. Another alternative is to use openJDK: they will have the same release cycle as Oracle JDK, but LTS releases will be supported for free, although for shorter period of time as Oracle JDK.
Please publish future XAP policy regarding support of Java versions, as obviously our choice will be impacted by your decision. For example, if you will support only LTS releases, we will not be able to upgrade to new (potentially incompatible) JDK releases every 6 months, and will be forced to use LTS releases. On the other hand, if you decide to always support the bleading-edge JDK version, we have to follow you and upgrade to new JDK version every 6 months.
If such policy is already available, could you please provide a link to it.
